KPMG apprentice named Learner of the Year
KPMG school leaver Joshua Dowen has been named West Midlands’ 2015 VQ Learner of the Year in recognition of his outstanding vocational achievement at Walsall College.
Joshua’s work ethic resulted in him securing a degree-level apprenticeship with KPMG‘s public sector audit team in Birmingham, and he is now working his way up to achieving Chartered Accountant status, completing his BSc Accounting degree at Durham University under sponsorship from the firm.
While he works towards his degree, Joshua is learning on the job by working on KPMG audit clients, under the tutelage of more experienced colleagues, enabling him to gain a real breadth of experience.
Along with eight other regional winners, Joshua will attend the national VQ Awards ceremony in London on 9 June, where an overall national winner for VQ Learner of the Year will be announced.
Joshua said: “I’m thrilled to have been named as the West Midlands winner of this year’s VQ Learner of the Year Award. I would highly recommend vocational learning and would encourage others to explore the wide range of training options, and to choose a path best suited to their individual skills and interests.”
