2 Year Fixed Term Contract
Based at Benmore Botanic Garden
Starting Salary £16,900 (Band A) plus Civil Service pension and other benefits

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has an exciting opportunity for a Modern Apprentice to work and train in our garden at Benmore, near Dunoon, Argyll. This post is being sponsored by The Cruach Trust and The John Younger Trust.

The successful applicant will be offered a 2 year modern apprenticeship in which time they will attend SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) Oatridge campus in West Lothian on a block release basis to work towards an SVQ Level 2 in Horticulture.  As part of the placement, you will learn all aspects of horticulture, spending time in all areas of the garden.

The apprentice will also receive 25 days of annual leave plus a generous public holiday entitlement and a protective clothing allowance. As this is a Modern Apprenticeship scheme, applicants must be aged between 16 and 19 years old.

How to Apply

Step One
As the first part of the assessment we’d like applicants to put together a Personal Statement. (need help writing a personal statement). This should:
- Tell us about you
- Tell us about your interest in horticulture and any horticultural skills you have
- Include information about any previous work experience you have
- Explain why you would like to become a Horticultural Apprentice at RBGE
- Should be limited to no more than 3 pages.

Step Two

You should also complete and return an Equal Opportunities Questionnaire (download here) as part of your application.

Step Three
Attach both Personal Statement and Equal Opportunities Questionnaire to an emailed to at no later than 12pm on Friday, 31 August 2018. - A selection day will be carried out in September with the successful applicant starting their modern apprenticeship later that month.  Block release at SRUC Oatridge will start late autumn.
