Short Description
We are seeking a motivated and conscientious apprentice who is interested in working in Financial Reporting and wishes to pursue a career in Finance.

The successful applicant will be involved in carrying out valuations of Prudential’s life insurance and pensions products and will get the opportunity to learn about different life insurance products and financial reporting metrics while working with a supportive actuarial valuation team.

Full Description
This apprenticeship is within the Finance Reporting area in Finance. The team is responsible for carrying out actuarial valuations of Prudential’s life insurance and pensions business. The team produces results to determine the reserves which must be held to meet future claims and assesses the products’ profitability. The team provides information for public and regulatory financial reporting; including Solvency II, EEV and IFRS disclosures. As a Finance apprentice, you will support valuation of various new and existing life insurance and pensions products. You will be expected to use MS Excel and other tools to perform in-depth numerical analysis of these products.

Your duties will include:

  • Undertaking numerical analysis and data manipulation using a range of software.
  • Preparing and documenting IT programs and models.
  • Supporting a range of management reports e.g. committee papers, Board reports, and regulatory disclosures.
  • Responding to technical queries.
  • Supporting project work when required.
  • Seeking and acting on opportunities to develop technical and business understanding.
  • Drafting and maintaining up-to-date, appropriate documentation and checklists for processes.
  • Ensuring understanding and adherence to Prudential’s Code of Conduct and, where appropriate, complying with all relevant regulatory policies.


Future Prospects
This is a fixed term contract for 15 months upon which the business may decide to retain, subject to the apprentice performance, headcount and available funding. If recruited into a permanent role, the individual will follow the career progression applicable to that specific role/department.

Training Provided

Your apprenticeship shall be delivered by a blend online lessons and online learning alongside internal training and on-the-job learning.

If recruited into a permanent role following the end of the program, there may also be opportunities (subject to funding) to progress with actuarial qualifications e.g. Certificate in Financial Mathematics, Certified Actuarial Analyst and beyond.

Skills Required

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mathematical or statistical ability.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise, combined with an ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of MS Excel.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) – Intermediate level.


Desired (not essential):

  • Experience of an office or business environment.
  • Experience of preparing written and verbal communications for a range of audiences.
  • Basic understanding of insurance products.
  • An interest in computer modelling / programming


Personal Qualities

The role would ideally be suited to a candidate with some prior work or voluntary experience and with the ambition to broaden their knowledge and experience in Finance. The role would ideally be suited to a confident individual with a strong ability in mathematics and with an interest in a career in Finance.

The successful applicant should enjoy working as part of a team and be able to manage their time effectively. The applicant would ideally have an inquisitive and analytical nature and be keen to learn.

Qualities Required
As a minimum, candidate will have 5 National 5 including English and Maths or equivalent. This role will require an apprentice with strong academic performance in both Mathematics and English (Highers or A/AS Levels or equivalent).
