We have high expectations and in return ScotRail will offer individuals the opportunity to gain excellent training, leading to a Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service. This is a 18 month apprenticeship during which time you will receive training on a number of customer service based roles within the company, such as Ticket Examiner, Gateline (commercial duties), Customer Service Station Grade (booking office skills), CCTV Operator, On Train Hospitality Assistant and also opportunities to work alongside our Fraud & Revenue Team.

You will also have the opportunity to gain excellent training with an SVQ qualification in Customer Service as well as a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award, which is an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development including five sections volunteering, physical, skills, expedition and residential. You will discover exciting opportunities, make new friends, experience teamwork, problem solving, decision making and develop communication skills. Throughout your apprenticeship you will be working with an industry recognised assessor and mentors who will provide full support.

You should be self disciplined and be able to demonstrate pride and effort in anything you undertake. You should also be fully committed to training with a real desire to succeed. It would be desirable if you already possess or are working towards your bronze/silver/gold Duke of Edinburgh and taking part in volunteering work within your local community.

Candidates must be within the age range of 16-23 and it would be advantageous to have Standard Grade English and Maths at level 1 or 2, or National Certificate level 5, however those with relevant vocational qualifications and activities undertaken, out with academic institutions, such as volunteering activity or work placements will also be eligible to apply.

Hours are 35 hours week, working early and back shift (with the exception of extreme start/finish time) over Monday to Saturday with a rotating rest day.

Benefits package: Contributory final pension scheme. Free and reduced rate rail travel. Training, Glasgow based: Comprehensive Training initially involves a 5 day Induction training programme including first aid and fire safety training. This will be followed by a one week Residential programme and then several weeks training in commercial duties and booking office accountancy skills. Selection process: Candidates short-listed will be asked to complete on-line tests and then if successful, invited to attend an assessment day in Glasgow. Candidates successful after assessment will be invited to interview. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical examination, drugs/alcohol screening and Disclosure Scotland. Appointees must provide at least 2 satisfactory references and complete a six month probation period.
