Digital apprenticeships on the rise
New research issued by the Tech Partnership evidences more than 17,000 people started digital or tech apprenticeships in the UK in 2014/15. This represents a growth of 21% over the previous year, significantly outperforming the 10% growth of apprenticeships as a whole.
A closer look at the figures reveals that digital apprentices now account for around 3.1% of total apprentices. That amounts to around 30,000 people in training for careers in software, coding, product development and implementing or managing technology systems. The age profile of digital apprentices is younger than the overall average too: nearly three-quarters (74%) of 2014/15 starters were aged 24 or younger, compared with 59% of apprentices overall.
