Join the latest career trend

Whether it’s that Kylie Jenner lip kit which sold out in minutes, that ridiculous hat you’ve had in your basket for months from ASOS or a Snapchat filter which transforms you into a dog. Trends come and go. Not this one though, apprenticeships are here to stay.
We caught up with some of the people at the heart of the latest career trend. We find out what motivates, inspires and drives them.

“I realised that turning my interests into my career is possible through a digital apprenticeship”.
Amy, 19

How did it all start? Was Digital always your passion?
“Being brought up during the age of digital technology has meant that social media has become second nature to me. I spend nearly every waking hour on social media in some way! Not only is social media my hobby, it’s now become my career!”

How would you describe your work ethic?
“In my workplace at Ibiza Digital Media, it’s a very casual and relaxed atmosphere! The office has beanbags, a pool table and a hammock and we play great music all day which allows my creativity to flow. The team are lively with a great sense of humour, we are always winding each other up! I’m known as the loud member of the team and the office clown.”

What does being an apprentice mean to you?
“Being an apprentice means a lot to me as I’m grateful that I can work on the job and gain experience, whilst working towards a qualification and earning a wage at the same time with no prior experience or qualification.
It allows me to enter the adult world whilst still enjoying my youth.”

Do you feel a lot of pressure to prove yourself now that you chose a different route than most people your age?
“Personally yes, in this day and age everyone is made to think that the ‘right’ route is to go to school, then go onto university to get a degree. However, full-time education was never for me, I learn by doing, so going down the route of an apprenticeship was the perfect option for me!”

What’s next for you?
“I’ve recently been promoted to ‘Head of Account Management’, which means I’m in charge of running 15 different clients’ social media accounts, as well as the interns in our office! I also really want to express my passion for health and fitness by setting up a personal blog.”
