Barnardo’s Scotland celebrates Scottish Apprenticeship Week
Barnardo’s Scotland will be joining Skills Development Scotland (SDS) in celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2015.
Starting today until May 22 the week will show the benefits apprenticeships bring to businesses, young people and the Scottish economy.
The children’s charity is taking the opportunity this week to celebrate the success of young people in work placements and to put a call-out to employers about how their service, Barnardo’s Works, can help by matching the potential of young people with the needs of employers.
A young man came to Barnardo’s Works, as part of the Employability Fund Programme. He took part in a number of group activities and completed a placement with a local garage.
During this period Barnardo’s Works was contacted by the Scottish Motor Trades Association enquiring about possible support for a local coachworks looking to take on their first ever apprentice.
Following a meeting with the coachworks he was offered a placement which gave him the opportunity to gain more hands-on experience. Upon completion of the eight week placement Barnardo’s Works was able to source Employment Recruitment Incentive Funding for the young man which meant Dunmuir Coachworks could employ their first ever Modern Apprentice, a win win situation. He has now started his apprenticeship in Vehicle Refinishing and is looking forward to starting college.
